The Zenith Royal 50 is Zenith’s introduction to the small shirt pocket sized transistor radio market. Until now, Zenith had nothing that resembled the size of a pack of cigarettes, so this small size was a new milestone for the Royalty of Radio. But don’t let the size fool you. This radio still gives the power and sound quality that previous Zeniths had, easily separating themselves from the imports from Japan.
The radio measures 2.5″ wide, 4.25″ tall, and 1.25″ deep and weighs 7.7 ounces and cost $29.95 new back in 1960. The radio was offered in 5 colors: Beige, Red, Chocolate Brown, White, or Black. It operates on 2 AA batteries.
The radio offered here is in nice cosmetic condition with only some chipping on the bottom which does not show when on display. The radio’s chassis is all original and very clean, and it is in fine playing condition. It sounds good across the AM dial and is very sensitive.
